I work in Internal Audit, helping Retail Banking improve their risk and control framework. I contribute to delivering the banks audit plan, providing assurance to the banks audit committee. I assess and test controls that mitigate business risks, working within an audit team to manage our stakeholders and deliver audit reports. I am completing a highly respected external qualification. I'm granted study leave to complete the learning and exams to the best of my ability.
I have developed my analysing skills when completing audit testing, evaluating data to draw accurate and complete conclusions. I have learnt the skill of Professional Scepticism, acting with a questioning mind to identify when something may not be as it seems, using audit evidence to support my conclusions. I have also developed my communication and leadership skills though networking opportunities across the bank.
I really enjoy the programme. There are lots of opportunities for me to develop skills and build my network. The company culture at NatWest considers employees, communities and the environment. Although the exams are tough, I have a great support network and feel comfortable giving my feedback and opinions to the leadership team.
My employer has pushed for me to receive a structured programme. However my apprenticeship qualification provider, BPP, have not communicated well throughout my course for the learning side of my apprenticeship. Despite this, my employer has pushed for updates and provides me with continuous daily support. My work is organised and I am always in a team where I have available support and am assigned tasks that will help me develop and improve.
I receive a great amount of support from my provider. We have an open and honest environment and I feel comfortable to share how I feel. Whenever I have blockers, the managers provide me with reassurance and do what they can to ensure I am getting the most out of my apprenticeship.
I am rating this a 2 as my training provider; BPP have not been very supportive. I received my study books late, have to chase up emails constantly, was advised an incorrect deadline date and had my first review call 3 months late. Whenever we send multiple emails or raise an escalation, issues seem to be resolved, but not first time.
My qualification helps me to perform better in my role as it has built my awareness of finance. The 6 exams that I completed allow me to relate to external and internal standards that I am required to comply with as an auditor. My coursework has also enabled me to write better, which has helped me perform better as an auditor.
I get 2 volunteering days a year. I have been involved in events at high schools and tree planting. I have also had the opportunity to support online events and networking events within the function and I am part of the social and connected team to help set up networking events in person and online. There are also opportunities across the whole bank

It has a great culture and I'm proud to work here. We have strong values which I connect with in my work. I believe the apprenticeship schemes are a great start to a career and they lead to multiple different opportunities. I am also treated as a valued member of staff.
I would advise to become familiar with our values and critical people capabilities. Our values and behaviour's are extremely important as they help us achieve our purpose and goals as an organisation. I would also take time to check that the role is right for you and links with your values and skill set!
