  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills. Previously I competed the AAT level 4. This was an apprenticeship to Level 3 and privately funded at level 4. I am using all that I learnt during that to help me in the level 7 apprenticeship. I am learning a lot and most of that I learnt in the previous question in thought the level 7 apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really glad I found my way back to accounts as I really enjoy the job. It is challenging but is rewarding. The work pressure can sometimes be overwhelming however I am hoping with experience it will get easier. I enjoy going to college some days out of the month and learning on the job.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure is really organised. My employer has employed apprentices for many years and they supported me during my initial set up. My learning provider Kaplan financial is great and the tutors are really helpful. I know when I have exams and when I’m expected to finish the course.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive enough support from my employer in terms of taking days off to go to college. I have a day off for the exam. I have heard a lot of places give time off for revision which my work place doesn’t do. Sometimes work pressure is too much around exams and I really struggle however they have an open door policy so I’m not afraid to ask a manager for help. I’ve done this before and it helped.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We receive support by way of taking the days off for college. We can ask managers any questions about ACCA if we are struggling however in terms of extra days study - we don’t get. The employer claims 95% funding from the government for the apprenticeship which is great. This means I don’t pay anything except my annual membership with the accounting body.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification is really helping me already. I have only been doing the ACCA for 5 months and already I am understanding tasks set for me at work better. Things are piecing together. I am currently revising for a tax exam which has really helped my day to day duties.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not really as the pandemic. However, during covid and working from home, we had socials on zoom but these have now stopped. We support a charity we raise money for but because of covid we haven’t done any team activities. We used to get together socially on a Friday but not the whole team. We have Christmas parties and sometimes socials like escape rooms.

  • 9a. Would you recommend Lishmans LLP to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a great place to study and work as you learn so much on the job. It isn’t a large company so you know the partners and speak daily. It is an established apprenticeship provider with a lot of clients and experience. You get given responsibility I don’t think you can get at many other accountancy practices.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lishmans LLP?
  • I would be enthusiastic and willing to learn. Also eager to take on responsibility and progress within the company. You should be passionate about accounts! I would make sure you research about the company first and have a general idea about the their values and goals. The company values hard working employees.
