  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my main roles are posting and reconciling bank accounts, maintaining cashflows and forecasts and working with treasury to ensure accounts are sufficiently funded and counterparty limits are not exceeded. processing intercompany invoices and resolving any intercompany mismatches. Assist external auditors by providing reports and data analysis in a timely manner.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have completed AAT level 3 and working towards AAT level 4. we have regular training sessions on software used internally, I have also used personal development time to improve excel skills such as crating macros to help towards continuous improvement. Improved time management from working to deadlines and communication skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy working at sage, we have regular team activities across the finance teams and have a finance engagement team who plan activities such as quizzes and competitions. We are also encouraged to take part in a quarterly sports break. There are also regular team meetings to keep everyone up to date

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When I first joined as an apprentice we had a week long induction meeting people from various departments and team building sessions to get to know other apprentices. We are also provided with additional training and personal development time to improve on any skills, i have been using this time to improve excel skills.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support, i attend a 12 weekly progress review with my manager and a representative from our training provider to discuss progress which also gives an opportunity to seek additional support in any areas needed. There are also colleague representatives who you can go to with any problems.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I attend college weekly and have regular progress reviews both in college with my tutor and with the college representative and my employer to ensure we are on track and getting the support we need and this also provides an opportunity to discuss any problems or areas where extra support is needed.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • Studying AAT helps me perform better in my role as it gives a wider view of finance as a whole and to understand the reasons behind why certain things are done rather than just following a process and also helps with the under standing of processes end to end and how your role contributes and helps others

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • there are many activities to get involved in and volunteering opportunities to get involved in through sage foundation we are encouraged to get involved and are encouraged to use our 5 days of volunteering time for example going to work at a local cat and dog shelter for the day.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend working at sage to friends and family as I feel it is a good company to work for with many incentives and benefits and a happy and positive working environment. You are also provided with the support and opportunities required to progress and develop both professionally and encouraged to work on personal development too


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Sage?
  • When I applied to work at sage there were a series of short 'speed dating' like interviews and also a group interview where we played some ice breaker games before were given a task to work on as a group. We were also told before the interview to look into a specific topic so we were prepared for the group task
