No two days are ever the same at BDO. I work on many different clients and many different backgrounds. Client work involves looking at the financial information and finding evidence to support significant transactions made. It involves speaking with a lot of different people and going to different client sites
I have learnt many new skills since working at BDO. I sit exams which help me with my accounting knowledge and on the job training gives a high level of experience. My people skills have grown massively and also thing such as writing emails have massively improved since starting BDO.
I enjoy all of the new skills that i learn and all of the different people that i get to work with. However, the exam side to the programme can be very difficult. It is sometimes hard to balance a work life balance when you have to study on top of working.
There is a lot of guidance for all apprenticeships. There are many people within the firm that are there at all times to help you with any struggles. You are given a 'buddy' when you first join and they will be around a year ahead of you and will help you with any questions you may have.
There are many different teams within BDO which help with apprenticeships. Almost everyone in the firm is aware of the different grades that join and are always there to support and help you. There is a specific team for HR, exams, college, training etc so there are many people to turn to
Our training provider BPP give a lot of support surrounding exams. They issue a lot of different workbooks and videos to help you understand the courses much better. They are also very attentive to over email so if you have any questions you can always expect a reply within a decent time.
BPP gives you a lot more ease as you approach your exams. I always find that the videos that they release for every exam are very helpful as they take you down step by step. This helps perform better in my role as i can also focus my time on working as well as studying
There are always many different social events happening. Since working at the firm, i have been to many different socials where you get to know a lot more people within the firm in a more relaxed way. There are many different social activities that take place however i do not get involved in them
Yes
It is a nice work environment to be a part of and there are so many great people that work for the firm. The work is always very interesting and your skills develop more and more everyday. Although the exams are tough, the qualification at the end makes it worth it
The main piece of advice i would give is to be as confident as you can. When you work at BDO, you have to talk to many different people and be as approachable as possible. It is therefore important to show that you have that skill to put to actual working
