At Sky I will work as part of a team developing or maintaining new or existing digital products. When starting at Sky, Apprentices work as part of educational projects which give us time to learn and gain experience before entering teams. I will also find time to work on my final portfolio and explore some of my own technical interests.
I've learnt everything I know about Software Development from Sky and Multiverse! As well as having time to explore my own interests. I've learnt all about APIs, Web development, Encryption, Artificial Intelligence, Authentication, Web Tokens and how to work as part of a team and wider employee community!
The time on my apprenticeship has been split between working on educational projects with teams at Sky and bootcamp/ teaching with our learning provider, Multiverse. I have always enjoyed my time with Multiverse and the way they provide teaching. Whilst working in teams, I enjoy applying what I've learnt but of course working with others means having patience and compromising.
Outside of dedicated bootcamp/ teaching which happens every few months, I work as part of an educational project. It's clear within the team that the benefit of this project is for us to learn and develop the skills we need to work within Sky. This means that we have a lot of freedom to work in ways which work best for us!
Sky has supported me in this apprenticeship before it even began! It has been amazing the dedicated support in place for support apprentices, the community as Sky makes it easy to reach out to anyone and ask for guidance or take advantage of LinkedIn Learning to learn new skills. At Sky there are a range of inclusive communities that support and promote equality and kindness. We're also provided with lots of mental health support for anyone who needs it!
Multiverse employ fantastic tutors which is important when you will spend several weeks with them day-to-day! They teach in creative and engaging ways. Outside of teaching, my tutor is available to support me and answer any questions I have about the apprenticeship and portfolio work. They also take the time to consider my wellbeing and develop my professional social skills.
Much of what I've learnt has come directly from teaching by Multiverse! Aside from the skills for my role. Multiverse hosts a series of interesting community events, these can range from social affluence to daily motivation! They're great opportunities to take a step back from day-to-day and engage as part of the multiverse community.
During COVID, it has been clear that teams, departments and employees haven't been able to socialise in the ways they usually can. However, the zoom Christmas raffle and weekly COD Warzone competition (to name a few) help to connect the community. Sky also give all employees opportunities to attend virtual events that can benefit their career progression!
Yes
Sky, is an amazing community for all employees. My teams work in modern, Agile and flexible ways, with a focus on mental wellbeing and career development. As an Apprentice I have access to connect with senior members that can provide me with guidance throughout my Apprenticeship as well as gain insight!
You don't need to know everything yet, but you need to be willing to learn! It's clear that Sky want employees to be driven to advance their skillset and career goals, and will take on those who will be member of the community and work well as part of a team.
