I work on a data warehouse, my role involves unix scripting (updating, fixing or creating jobs), responding user raised tickets, can be code changes, data queries or any other issues. I also work on Java projects.
New skills: SQL and PL/SQL Unix scripting HTML, CSS, JS Also developed on my Java skills. Not to mention I have greatly improved my soft skills which are equally as important as technical skills.
I love the program. Every day is a different day, also there are many many technical avenues and each one requires expertise meaning there are endless opportunities. I am also surrounded by experts in the field and countless resources.
Firebrand run the technical side and that has been great, the program is very structured from that end and UBS support from their side through in work mentors (manager) and the HR junior talent team
Ample amounts. My team and manager are very supportive and on top of this the junior talent team are there 24/7 to support us.
Our training provider gives us a personal mentor who is knowledgeable in the course contents and the skills required to get us through.
The skills I have worked on in my qualification have been relevant to my role.
UBS provides many of these activities, I personally love to get involved in professional networking events because I learn so much from the seniors and every persons experience is different, it is very interesting and as a junior very meaningful.
Yes
As a junior the most important factor is that the employer cares, UBS goes above and beyond for us and all the other positives (there are a lot) are bonuses, I couldnt ask for anything more :)
Be honest, make sure you convey your passion and understand what it is you want to achieve - these are the things that will make you go far
