I am a junior tax associate. Working with a large team of tax accountants. My day to day job is extremely varied. I carry out administrative tasks sometimes such as drafting letters relating to matters. However the main tasks carried out are computations for companies. Learning new skills everyday by using the tax software.
I have learnt a number of new skills; including tax related and administrative. My knowledge is improving in Excel and Word as well as the tax knowledge. On a daily basis my knowledge is being extended. As well as developing my existing skills including communication within the team and interpersonal skills.
I enjoy my programme because I love to study and this is incorporated into the programme. During the first six months we have done a number of exams for which study is required as well as working when not studying. I enjoy working with different people and also being able to speak to colleagues from different offices from time to time too.
The programme is well organised by our internal professional qualifications team who look after our studies. The work side of things is also well structured in terms o a portfolio being given to us early on in the programme so that we are exposed to clients as soon as possible.
I receive a lot of support, especially from my incredible counselling manager who is available when required to answer any questions, relating to the job or in general. I also receive support from my peer group of colleagues and others in the company. There are numerous individuals available to help.
The training provider has a separate contact for our company who we can email and there are also tutors to speak to via the virtual learning hub. The tutors are available to answer any questions we may have and there are 6 monthly reviews to access how we are doing and to answer any questions we may have.
I feel the qualification teaching a lot of knowledge and key skills in all areas of accountancy which we would not be exposed to in a specific department for example where I am working within tax. Therefore the qualification gives all-rounder knowledge across the main areas of accountancy which is brilliant.
I am not aware of there being any extra-curricular activities especially with COVID at the moment and difficulties with social distancing etc. There are networking events that I am aware of which will start up again now that there are relaxations in place and as we are coming out of the pandemic.
Yes
Because of a number of reasons. It is a great organisation to work for and has a global presence. There are so many varied roles within the company and vast opportunities available to us. The culture is great and I am not aware of any other company that has such a great culture in their workplace.
I would advice to look into the different locations and streams available for example in the london office there are more roles available and apply to a stream that particularly interests you. It is also for anyone with any background you do not have to be from an accountancy background to apply.
