I look after all aspects of data for the Inclusion and Diversity team at M&S. I also and responsible for all of our financial spends and ensuring we do not overspend. In addition to this, I also work on projects that involve the I&S team, such as updating policies as well as working with other departments around the business to increase inclusion.
Although I have only been on the apprenticeship since January, I have developed my Excel skills and have been able to incorporate then in my day to day work. I have also discovered new tools in excel that I didn't know about, which has reduced the time it takes to make complex calculations; also increasing accuracy
I have found the programme very enjoyable. Although we are unable to physically meet, I have found the virtual workshops to be interactive as well as informative. The regular touchpoints with the programme leaders have been great and have helped to refocus when I have been unsure with what I needed to do.
so far, I have found the programme to be very well organised in both the structure and the delivery. I am clear on key deliverable dates well in advance, and also when virtual classes will be held. This allows me to ensure my diary is clear to meet these deadlines and to attend the classes
My employer has been very supportive as I embark on this apprenticeship programme. I am able to dedicate the time I need to in order to meet deadlines for submissions; as well as allowing me to attend classes. My line manager has been very supportive and when more time is needed above the 8 hours allocated each week, she is more than happy for me to do so.
Whenever I have had a question or a query relating to my apprenticeship, my training provider have been able to support me and provide answers where relevant. They have been able to give me ideas of topics to explore as part of my portfolio. We have regular catch ups every 6 weeks.
This qualification will enable me to work smarter in my role. I will be able to use data to provide a framework to any strategies or workstreams we look to incorporate in the business. The apprenticeship will give me advanced tools in how to analyse data more efficiently than I previously have, as well as in more detail.
Working from home has curbed this to a large extent. However, pre-Covid there were several company and social events and activities that I participated in. We are given 2 days a year that we can spend doing volunteer work. Being an M&S employee gives me access to reduced rates for gym membership, which I have taken advantage of.
Yes
Marks and Spencer have 4 values that underpin everything we do; with colleagues at the heart of the business. Colleagues are encouraged to be their authentic self in the work place and we are all encouraged to develop ourselves through schemes such as apprenticeships. There is also the opportunity to work in different areas of the business - something that very few businesses allow.
I would strongly encourage applicants to fully research the role and understand the job description. If possible, follow M&S on social media platforms such as LinkedIn. Relevant experience is always beneficial. If possible, reach out to someone in the business in the role you are applying for and have a discussion with them to see if the reality of the role is as expected.
