  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Designing and facilitating in-house learning initiatives, including delivering inductions for new starters. This also includes creation of online content to be utilised on internal e-learning platform.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Moving from retail into L&D in 2019, I have learned an amazing amount of new skills, many of which are transferrable. I have also developed existing and unrealised skills which I was unaware I possessed.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • With a huge thirst for knowledge, I really enjoy the fact that I am constantly developing myself and learning relevant and useable skills which I can put into practice immediately.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The initial guidance was not planned very well. I am now having to return to things from many months ago, which could have been prevented if planned from the beginning. However, the overall structure is very good and I can clearly see what to do and when.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has given a huge amount of support in assisting me complete my apprenticeship. Time is allocated where possible with the option to re-arrange workload to accommodate CIPD if needed.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • This has been extremely inconsistent, having 3 different advisors throughout the qualification. I have relied upon online content, and they haven't mapped across K,S&B to Journal entries as they are meant to. I am having to do this as they refused to when asked.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification has forced me to reflect upon my experiences a lot more than I would have done, which has allowed me to understand what I am doing and adapt accordingly. I now understand a lot more 'theory' of the role.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are many events to get involved with. We have lots of different groups through our company network, roadshows and many options to network with others.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • After 13 years with the company, I believe that it is a superb place to work that really believes in developing and looking after its colleagues. There are many career options that open.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Dixons Carphone?
  • If you truly believe in the company and have the right work ethic DC will develop you to be the best you can. If you invest yourself in the company, the company will invest in you!
