I work with a skilled fitter who teaches me all of the tasks that I will be expected to carry out. I am given hands on experience, using specialised tooling and equipment.
I have developed many skills such as drilling and bolting but I have recently been working with sealant much more frequently and am familiarising myself with the different techniques.
I am always excited to come in everyday as the fitters that I work with are so accommodating and always help me with any problems that I have. The time goes by so fast, everyday is different.
I am always kept up to date with where I am supposed to be in terms of academic work and any training or important noticed are sent via email way ahead of time so that we have time to prepare.
I am able to text my manager whenever I need him as I can rely on him to resolve any problems I have as soon as possible. Everyone seems to be looking out for you.
Contacting lecturers and TTO’s is simple. They often respond instantaneously and always point you in the right direction. Especially with having virtual sessions, they do everything they can to ensure that apprentices have all of the necessary resources and documents required to complete tasks.
I can talk to the fitter that I work with using jargon which makes me feel more confident as I am more aware of the tooling, fasteners etc. It also makes everything that we have learnt much more clear as the product is right in front of you.
Gen-A are always hosting events for apprentices to take part in. The company also have their own football team and a new gym. Options are endless!
Yes
It is the best company that I have worked for! The apprenticeship is hands on from the start and everyone there encourages each other - everyone is so kind and welcoming. It’s proof that working can actually be fun!
Take your time during the college training and take everything in. Always push yourself to do better than what you think you could because you’ll find that you probably can - I struggled to believe in myself and my skills but once I did, I improved even more.
