My role has a range of responsibilities that focus around ensuring that business critical systems remain online and function to the best of their abilities. Whilst attending daily meetings and monitoring alert queues the role also requires me to study towards a degree in Digital Technology Solutions. I attend lectures every three weeks as it is a part time course and have regular assignments to submit.
I have learned many new skills in my short time in the role. These include various programming languages such as C#, HTML, Java, Python, SQL, PHP and Java Script. I have also been introduced to new technologies provided by Microsoft, such as Azure, Azure DevOps and Dynamics 365. I have also built on existing skills with Office 365.
I have thoroughly enjoyed the programme so far as it has allowed me to study towards a degree that will definitely benefit me in the future. I also have the opportunity to work at the same time which allows me to gain valuable experience in a very competitive and constantly evolving industry.
The programme is extremely well structured. We had an extremely informative induction week where we were given all our equipment and briefed on what to expect for the whole time we were studying. This extended through to our induction in university were they provided further clarity around what they expected from us for the 4.5 years we would be with them.
I receive a huge amount of support from my employer. I have monthly one to one calls with a reviewer who gives me guidance on my career path within Capgemini. My line manager is very supportive and will offer support if and when it is needed. We have an extensive e-learning portal which has training material on almost any topic I need.
We have brilliant support from our university whenever we have any questions around course material or assignments. There is clear communication from the course lead around schedule changes and updates around the current COVID situation. It is a thoroughly enjoyable course and all the lecturers are very friendly and approachable.
There is a strong link between the university and our employer which means that the material we are taught translates fairly well into our day to day roles. There have been occasions where I have felt the link between the course work and my day to day work was quite weak but on the whole I see how what I'm being taught benefits me in my role in work.
There is a wide range of events that I am able to get involved in outside of my day to day work. Capgemini have strong links with charities so there are always fundraising events that we are encouraged to participate in. Capgemini also have a rugby team and my base office have a 5 a side football team.
Yes
Capgemini is a fantastic place to work. There are so many supportive people who are always willing to give their time for you if you are stuck on a problem and need help. Capgemini are also very generous and there are a wide range of benefits that can be chosen as an employee of the company
It is extremely important to do some research before you apply to Capgemini as this will prepare you for your assessment day and interview should you be successful in the initial stages. Once successful the onboarding process is a great opportunity to meet fellow new starters and managers. Capgemini offer many opportunities and experiences that you should not shy away from as they are great to show that you are willing to push yourself out of your comfort zone.
