My day to day role involves running daily checks on internal applications and services to ensure that they are all running as planned. I am also completing more software testing projects each week to increase my skills and knowledge in that area. On top of this I have weekly lectures to attend.
I have done both! My existing skills such as communication, presentation and collaborations have all been enhanced thanks to both the degree modules that I am undertaking and also my position within a close team. I have gained skills in software development and testing which I did not have before.
I absolutely love the programme! We began with an initial period of accelerated learning which brought my whole cohort up to a level where we could begin completing our daily roles effectively, whilst also securing friendships between us. As new modules begin I am given more practical and theoretical knowledge.
I cannot fault Capgemini's organisation of the degree apprenticeship programme, and the fact that we all begin in manageable sized cohorts allows us to make bonds quickly that will stick with us for at least the duration of the degree apprenticeships. The ALE period was also very well structured.
Capgemini has offered me and all of my cohort exceptional support right from the beginning. Starting a degree (let alone a full time job!) during a global pandemic was always going to be difficult since we have yet been able to meet each other in person, but we always know who and how to contact somebody for support.
In terms of the module tutors and research assistants I cannot fault the level of support when it is needed, however I will say that some communication from the training provider has been lacking. Whilst there is an expectation that at degree level we should be approaching the University with questions if we dont know something, there is a similar expectation for the University to provide information relevant to course timetables, start dates etc that is a bit lacking.
Without the knowledge that I am gaining through my qualification I dont feel that I would be suited for my role. Before starting this journey the majority of my skills came from being self-taught and whilst I believe that Capgemini would have worked with me to get me to the level I need to be, the qualification has undoubtedly sped up this process.
There is always something happening at Capgemini that you can get involved in - Giving back is a large part of the personal development journey that the company encourages. So far I have helped with raising over £10000 for the Prince's Trust and am currently helping to organise this years Pride festivities.
Yes
I have never before worked for an employer and actually enjoyed every single day - I actually feel a little bit melancholy when I log off for the day. This company truly embodies its core beliefs and values and it shows every single day. I feel part of a community that has definitely been lacking for most of my working life.
Dont overthink or stress about assessment centres/interviews and the likes. Turn up and let your true self shine through, the company is all about individuals and what they can bring to the global team. Be aware that the process between applying for a role and starting can take a while.
