Typically applying data-fixes to existing applications and developing new code changes. I work across multiple accounts so the types of developments can vary from day to day, however my role also involves lots of liaison with clients to ensure their needs are being met and catered to to a satisfactory level.
Before joining I had nearly no technical knowledge or experience. From day 1, I have learned coding languages such as Java, C#, Python, SQL and more which has broadened my horizon regarding the possibilities of having such knowledge. Interpersonal skills such as communication and listening have also seen considerable growth since joining in 2019.
My enjoyment of the program has been hampered somewhat due to the pandemic. I have been unable to physically attend work or university, however that is no fault of the company. I have still been provided the necessary support and resources to develop my skills and complete my day to day tasks.
The program has seen some tweaks in recent times, and has also been impacted by covid since there was an immediate need to alter operations to be in line with restrictions. Despite this, the structure has been good and I have found it easy to keep track of uni work and assignments alike.
I feel as though the uni side is very independent in terms of the actual work, however Capgemini does offer useful support by allowing us to take study days to give us more time to focus on our studies. I do however know that if I were ever in need of academic support, I have colleagues who would be happy to help.
The first 8 weeks at Aston university was the only on campus time I have had, however during that time I learned a lot and I had almost constant support. With covid, since everything has been virtual, support has been less omnipresent, but I understand where I can go if I need it.
Some of the things I learn at uni have little or no relevance to my daily roles, however sometimes it can help tremendously. For example, if it wasn't for our SQL module at the start, I wouldn't be doing the work I'm doing now since it granted me the foundation knowledge I needed to undertake my tasks.
Again, due to covid all social events have been postponed. I do understand that there are sometimes social events and there are sporting events occasionally through the week which I assume will continue once we return back to normal. Professional networking events I believe are focused towards more senior members of the company.

The opportunity this apprenticeship offers is second to none, the ability to get a free degree and gain experience in such an in demand field is fantastic, and I feel truly blessed to have earned this position. The colleagues, work life, social aspect and more make this role appeal to anyone and everyone.
Honesty is one of the companies core values, and is what I believe got me my role in the first place. Others in my assessment center had greater technical ability than myself, however I didn't try to hide this fact. By being honest and open about myself, I believe that allowed me to succeed.
