Junior Tax Associate Review

On a daily basis I am involved in various tax compliance projects. This involves me doing basic admin tasks such as drafting engagement letters and ensuring the client due diligence procedures are satisfied. I also often draft tax computations, which require liaising with clients in order to obtain all the required information.

Yes, I have learnt how to efficiently and effectively communicate with clients and also with other within my own team. This is a crucial skill as being able to communicate effectively within a team will enable me to be more efficient with my work. I also developed my time management skills, as being able to balance various projects at once is a key skill.

I enjoy my programme a lot because it allows me to balance the experience one gets from working on projects, whilst also allows me significant time to study for my exams. Also, the team I am apart of are extremely helpful at providing me with work, whilst also giving me the time to study.

It is very well structured. We are provided with a clear step by step guide of which exam we will be taking and when. Having this clarity, enables us to thoughtfully plan and organise our revision timetable effectively, in order to put ourselves in the best place to pass the exams.

We receive a great deal of support. This comes in various forms. One being that we are allocated a sufficient amount of time for study leave, to revise for our exams. They are also very helpful as they provide a dedicated internal professional qualifications team, that can help us through this graduate programme of exams

The qualification is extremely helpful for providing us with the required foundation that we need in order to progress through our career. The qualification helps us develop key skills needed for the work place such as ethics. It also helps us develop our technical knowledge which we can implement during work

Yes there are, there are various company sport teams that are very active. They have regular training sessions where we can develop our team spirit effectively. This helps us to communicate and work effectively during our competitive fixtures which we regularly take part in against other firms, which is always enjoyable.

As it is an inclusive environment, which allows people to learn and develop their skills in an effective manner. The culture they adopt is one that allows trainees to engage with more experienced team members, thereby allowing graduates to learn from these team members through constructive feedback received off them, which is helpful.

I would encourage others applying to BDO to be themselves. This is the best way to ensure both parties get an accurate representation if they are suited to each other. Also, having a passion and a willingness to learn and develop in their given role is crucial to be successful in any career path.
