  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Assigned clients and then assigned different tasks to do related to their audit work required. This can be items such as PPE, cash, misstatements, debt, money owed and more. The work is given by different people and if I have nothing available to me I find someone else to ask for some.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have become more professional thanks to dealing with colleagues and also clients which has helped me improve the way I react and respond to them. My Excel skills have also improved and I have learnt more about exactly how a typical audit can function and how the team collaborates.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the differing work with clients as no two clients ever are the same even if within the same industry. I find the work okay and not too hard to complete and am slowly picking up more and more complex tasks so I can still have some level of challenge.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It is very well organised as I know my whole exam structure for the 3 years, when I am studying for these and also when I am being properly taught to prepare for them as well. The scheduling is clearly quite thought out due to it having been done so many times.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have been assigned a buddy and people manager to ensure that if i ever had any form of concern or query that I can go straight to them. We also have a team that focuses on qualifications so any and all exam related concerns can be handled directly by them.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • As I said before we get plenty of support from those around us to help us succeed with the exams whether it is my buddy or people manager, the prof qual team who make sure everyone is getting on alright or even just my normal colleagues they are always helpful.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The qualification teaches you the theory and logic behind every step you take during the audit process, as well as giving helpful background information that adds context to all of the work that we perform. Without it I feel understanding the process of an audit would definitely be much harder.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Just yesterday we had a social event of virtual horse racing, while we have had quizzes ran for really good prizes and also so far had two escape rooms which are great for getting to know people and using your logic to work out how to solve each individual problem.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Taught everything from the ground up which means no one is ever behind anyone else. The difference in clients means you dont get stuck doing the exact same thing every day or every week and also seeing the different locations and spaces that clients are in means its always very fresh.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
  • Show that you can work as part of a team or even lead part of a team without dominating conversation and being too loud. This means you can show your skills without detracting from others. Ensure you enjoy problem solving from a technical point and also understand that sometimes there can be errors but these are fixable.
