My role involves ensuring that the business I support is compliant with all necessary standards and understands the legal requirements, SHE obligations etc it must follow. I provide business improvement support to general tasks and processes, as well as KPI and Action tracking measurement. I provide support for internal and external audits.
My apprenticeship is in Project Management, something I have done as part of my role throughout my career; however, I have learnt so much about the correct way of doing things and the alternatives to the way I know. As well as learning new skills in project management, the apprenticeship is also giving me new skills in writing, groupwork and researching.
I really enjoy the programme - it's difficult, as it's a lot of work on top of a full time job, but the content is so interesting and applicable to the work I do. It's also very enjoyable to learn more about the company I work for with other apprentices working in different areas.
The programme is extremely well structured and organised. Clear path and modules and timeline available. As well as clear course content, aims and workshops, the coursework and expectations are clearly laid out, and all of this is available for discussion with the module leader and skills coach through regular reviews, open office hours etc.
My manager has been a fantastic level of support, including looking at how I can integrate my coursework with usual work and checking that I'm not taking on too much. My mentor has also helped to drive my connections and interests for research throughout the company. My skills coach at QA has been fantastic; providing support not only for directly linked apprenticeship things, but also for wider working methods such as prioritising etc.
My module tutor has been fantastic - giving support wherever needed, and open office hours for questions. Support is always available, and I have been in touch by email and video. Not only do the tutors support with the specific module content and questions, but also around the more "university way of working and thinking", which can be difficult for full time workers to settle into.
The learning in my apprenticeship has helped in my day to day role, and by carefully looking at how I can integrate the coursework / course learnings into my projects, I've been able to put the theory into practice by making it part of my work and sharing with others. I also know more about my industry and company due to others on the course working in the company in different roles, and the coursework making me go out to people I wouldn't usually work with to learn more about what we do.
Whilst COVID has prevented some of the more sociable activities and going out, we have a strong team activity support, including wellbeing lunches, professional develoment events and also "blind date lunches" which happen across the wider international company, not just UK. We have our own team chat and digital network, and there is a sports activity app we can join.

Whilst E.ON is in an industry that is constantly changing, the support from management teams and wider company for development, improvement and change is superb. We have a strong internal jobs market which allows us to move around the business and gain more skills and development, and networking is encouraged through mentoring, professional development events, secondments and shadowing.
E.ON have such a wide and varied offer to meet the constantly changing demands of our industry and customers, that general skills, such as project management, leadership and team management are very valued. Technical information is always available and there is a strong culture of teaching and learning for those who need more technical skills.
