My main role is to ensure the smooth and safe running of the dental practice, while adhering to the regulations placed on us by various governing bodies. I manage a small team of clinical staff as well as act as the point of contact between the local health board and health inspectorate for Wales.
Since enrolling on the course I have learnt a variety of new skills as well as having the opportunity to improve my existing ones. It has been useful to learn about various tools and techniques that can easily be adapted to my role and provide a more competent way of working.
It has been difficult throughout the past year to find time to dedicate to my studies due to the covid 19 pandemic. We were one of the few businesses that were able to remain open but it meant we have been busier than ever. However, it was good to have a workplace distraction.
Very organised and the online smart assessor tool helps as well. I have regular communication with my tutor which ensures I am able to organise my studies alongside my full time job. Structure and organisation is an important factor to me as my job role as practice manager means I am very busy.
My employer is very supportive of my studies. I have been allocated time to study at home so I can get units completed as there isn't always a suitable "quiet" area for me to work within the practice. My employer is always very encouraging of their staff who want to gain further work place qualifications.
I have received full funding for the course I am currently enrolled on but prior to that my employer has covered all financial costs to my learning. Further support includes time out of the standard working week to complete work and also use of the practices laptop to complete my work on.
I feel it has helped me tremendously. It has made me feel more confident within my role as I have a better understanding of the running of the business. The training provider has been very helpful to allow me to adapt my course to the nature of the business that I work in.
We try to arrange regular social activities as we believe it is important to give our hard working staff something back. We also attend regular training today together rather than participating in "in-house" training. A Christmas celebration is always oragnised too. Once covid restrictions allow we are hoping to form a team to participate in the local pub quiz.
Yes
Helpful tutors, I was given help with funding, very organised and structured.
Ensure you are able to make time within your working week to do your assignments, devise a timetable to ensure you allow enough time to get things done. Ensure you have support from your employer or manager and ensure you have enjoy your job enough to want to do qualifications in that area!
