I manage several various packages, mostly preliminary such as scaffolding and site perimeter hoarding. My main tasks include cashflow forecasting, assessment of payment applications received from sub-contractors, cost-value reconciliation, invoice logging and issuing payment certificates.
The skills I've developed include: - Time management - Communication - Inquisitiveness - Problem-solving - Presentation skills - Negotiation - Teamwork - Excel proficiency to at least an Intermediate level - Improved technical knowledge via internal training
I thoroughly and enjoy my role especially in what I've achieved so far on the project. It has helped mould me into a more professional person, challenges not withstanding. I really feel at ease with my colleagues and supported on all levels, not to mention the company values which perfectly align with mine.
From Year 1, we've been following a semi-structured programme, initially undertaking training at least once a month, with the frequency eventually reducing over the years. This is natural as I've become busier with larger responsibilities, meaning I've also been engaged in several ongoing catch up meetings a result to assess how my packages are progressing. Since joining my current team, I've been particularly shadowing slightly senior colleagues which has proved to be invaluable experience and greatly beneficial for my learning on site. As of now, I feel much more involved in projects as opposed to every task being delegated to me.
I receive adequate support from my employer whether that be through colleagues, line manager or emerging talent, in particular it goes a long way especially when my special needs are taken into account.
I feel we are supported very well when it comes to our studies. All training provided in some way relates back to what is taught off site in university lectures. The ability to put the theoretical knowledge into practical context of the construction site is very key to my understanding which I feel is being fulfilled. Working with colleagues who are slightly senior but have also been through the process of submitting assignments on certain topics is also really beneficial.
I can vouch that what I've been learning in my degree and various types of training have aided my understanding of construction practices which I contend with on a daily basis. Although I am still in the midst of completing my undergraduate degree, I can confidently say the content I've taken in from uni lectures and training have enriched my ability to carry out my role.
Before the pandemic, we've had all sorts of social events, including mini golf, going for drinks, team meals, even a canal tour! I have also participated in volunteering activities such as helping to clear invasive vegetation from the local Oxbow Island. Otherwise outside of work, my main hobbies include playing basketball and bike riding

Mace Group is by far one of the most reputable companies in the construction industry on a global scale. Aside from corporate practice being otherworldly, I, as an employee, have never been more proud to work for a company that is so accommodating of all individuals regardless of background, as well as company values which intrinsically align with mine.
Ensure you follow all the instructions/advice given prior to assessments and interviews. Never feel afraid to ask for clarification or help with anything you are unsure of. As natural as it is to feel nervous, Mace personnel will not hesitate to offer the necessary support you require throughout the application process. Most importantly, be confident in expressing yourself as Mace is very accommodating. and make use of the various opportunities that come your way, it will be worth it!
