I am currently employed by East Midlands ambulance service as a technician. I am qualified to assess and treat sick/injured patients in a pre hospital setting
I have built on pre existing knowledge and am surprised at what already I have learnt.
I am thoroughly enjoying the challenge.
Currently we are the first cohort. We are learning and so are the providers so at times we are highlighting need for change in structure and feel sometimes this can be to our detriment but nothing too serious as yet.
Our employer is supporting us in the financial aspect of the programme allowing us to dedicate a lot of time too the programme but they are nit very supportive around annual leave and providing shifts with our mentors as changes seem to be happening much too often.
Our current module lead is amazing. He is sacrificing a lot of his personal time to help us. He has his own young family but it isn't going unnoticed and we're all very grateful.
It gives us additional skills and scope to provide the best care for our patients. It's difficult when you know what treatment a patient requires but are unable to give it.
