My role is to provide ultrafast internet to customers. I have to check and climb poles and install a fibre cable from pole to houses or connect the cable through boxes in the pathway to the customers house. I then install the service inside the property and connect the internal cable to the external cable l then check to make sure the service is working as it should.
I have learnt how to climb safely using the tetra system and how to strip the fibre cables to expose the fibre and then splicing the fibres together. I have also developed my customer facing skills making sure the customers are happy with the work. I have carried out for them.
I am really enjoying the job I get to meet new people everyday and I also get to work with great people on a daily basis. I like the hands on aspect of the job and I enjoy the travel to each job. Every day is different with its own problem to solve.
It is very well organised there is also some one on hand to help when I need to know something and the training path is very clear with its own dedicated days to complete the required modules it is really well put together and I’m looking forward to completing it.
There is help when ever I need it, I have been put in to a group chat with the whole team so if I ever meed any assistance or advice I just have to ask the question and someone will be there to help. The team is amazing and nothing is too much trouble.
Again as much as I need the team is brilliant and also my manager is great he’s always there to help when I need it and again nothing is too much trouble and the same goes with the patch leads always on hand to give advice and help out.
It helps as it is giving me a better understanding of the company and the way the network works. It is also helping by expanding my knowledge and skill set and at the same time improving the skills I have already so I can deliver great service and complete the jobs to a great standard.
Yeah there are other things to get involved with but due to the current situation and the way things are at the moment with COVID the extra activities have been put on hold. Hopefully when things go back to normal I’ll be able to take part with the team.
Yes
It’s a great place to work. The job is very rewarding and it’s a great feeling when you get the customers in service. The teams is awesome always there to help if you’re stuck or to just have a chat. Once you’ve got the hang of the job you can plan you’re day and crack on and get the jobs done.
Best advice I can give someone would be for them to look into the open reach website to get a bit of an idea on what goes on. And also just to be confident and willing to give anything a go. Everyone starts from the beginning, learn as much as you can and don’t worry too much about mistake learn from them and never be scared to ask for help.
