  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role consists of maintaining and installing the copper network infrastructure, serving super fast broadband and telephone lines throughout the UK, although I usually work in a specific area, South Yorkshire. I work in every location that needs a broadband/telephone line, business and residential. Climbing up and down telegraph poles also

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned skills such as installing copper cables to safe standards, experience being hands on, climbing up and down telegraph poles. Learned how to install, service and repair fibre to the cabinet connections, where the fibre finishes at the cabinet/green box and then converts to the customers existing copper connection, providing super fast speeds

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • This is the best job I have ever had I absolutely love it, comes with its challenges but there is always support where needed from colleagues, managers etc. I learn something new everyday and no day is the same. I have been here almost a year now and almost finished my nvq

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It’s well organised showing me which sections to complete and in what order etc. I have had numerous study days to complete my nvq, unfortunatey have had to do these from my home as due to covid we are unable to meet in a central location to complete them

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • So far I have always received support where needed, such as recently i asked my manager if I could have an extra nvq day just because I was struggling a little and they put this on for me without hesitation, this helps slot and keeps me on target to complete

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I always received support, 1 and 1 sessions and recently had a video call to discuss how I was getting on and how they could help me. This also helps keep me engaged and motivated to continue and get my apprenticeship completed on time, due next week now then I can be signed off

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It helps me massively, I would say mainly towards the safety side as everything is fully documented on there but also I can just jump back to it to remember a certain process and follow it that way and everything is on photos also so it makes it even easier

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are networking events and other social activities that I have seen but not taken part in due to covid, there are some online ones which I have seen though, when it first started I saw they did exercise classes on Thursday mornings which looked good, and some other classes
