As someone who works in art transport, we essentially aid Christie's with the movement of items be it items for sale, items being returned and items that need to be restored. My day to day includes tasks such as admin, data entry in terms of systems and excel as well as filing.
Due to moving to a completely new environment it was only natural that I would pic up new skills and develop existing ones. Christie's uses many systems to help the company be efficient within their operations so I have had to learn many uses for this system which aids me with my day to day work, existing skills which have been developed are email etiquette and other communication skills.
I enjoy the programme as Christie's has a very supportive and close culture where the enrichment of its employees are paramount, especially as I enjoy taking paths to further my personal development. In addition I have a great team who are very communicative and enjoy challenging me in different areas of my role.
My programme is well structured, support and needs of mine are always communicated to my team which allows me to still pursue my enrichment with my apprenticeship provider whilst still being able to progress within my team and gain more knowledge. This is mainly done via virtual meetings with my programme coach and my line manager or webinar events.
There are many areas of support within Christie's in particular the Human resources team and my own immediate team are always here to help, be it working from home and you need a monitor to needing to take holiday at short notice they are very considerate and supportive and always maintain a positive attitude.
In terms of my provider, support is also easily accessible due to opportunities given by the provider for example, work buddies, mentors and even times to connect with other apprentices which also act as an area of support. The coaches are always onboard and up to date with your progress and aim to improve your experiences throughout the course especially by doing masterclasses, enrichment events and speed networking meetings.
The qualification that I am currently studying towards helps me through giving me knowledge to help further understand the role of Christie's and what makes them so successful and impactful within the Art market, there are many module that are taught that can be translated perfectly into my role especially topics that relate to customs and the economy such as Brexit
There are many accredited courses that Christies offer, I have completed two so far which were both very interesting, at Christie's when you join as an apprentice you are paired with a 'work buddy' which is someone who is an ex apprentice and is now a full time employee which helps when learning about the company and having someone there to give support and advice who works in a completely different department.
Yes
Christies has a great working environment regardless of the department you decide to work in, they offer a wide range of enrichment opportunities alongside many benefits specific to the art world which many here use. It is a good place to develop your soft skills which will in turn help build your career prospects.
I would say take every opportunity no matter how small it is, they all make a difference. Also I would suggest they network as much as possible both internally and externally as people within your team can have different career backgrounds which is good as they can offer advice and guidance where you may be unsure especially being a apprentice and young adult.
