  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role is to look after the building and grounds of the school. This involves repairs to the building internally and externally, maintaining outside areas and woodlands making sure all areas on site are safe for the children and staff. This also includes sanitising multiple times a day due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed existing skills such as communication with others. I have also been put onto multiple courses giving me qualifications in areas such as safety at heights and a variety of other topics linking to my apprenticeship. I have also developed many practical skills in this job position doing a wide range of tasks from re-pointing paving to maintaining a swimming pool.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am really enjoying this so far as i have gained many new skills from my day to day work, as well as practical skills it has also given me a chance to improve my communication skills talking to other colleagues and contractors that have come into the the school putting me out of my comfort zone but allowing me to progress.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training i have received so far has been very organised, there has been a good structured program of check-up meetings, courses emails and work i need to complete to progress my knowledge, a website is also used to chart my progress of the program and is a really effective way of organising my work and what i do.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive plentiful support from my employer. Thankfully the apprenticeship has been so well set up and i have a good training provider and employer that i haven't needed much extra support at all but whenever i have needed any assistance or help it has been given to me very freely.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I have received extensive amounts of help from my training provider with my working towards my qualifications. I have regular online meetings with my assessor to check my work and help me with my working towards my qualification. If i miss a meeting due to being busy they will arrange a 1 to 1 session to tecah me the knoldge i have missed out on.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think that my qualification i am working towards helps me a lot in my position, it really helps me to explore all aspects of a situation and asses the problem and the best solution taking into account the schools economy, health and safety and many other factors giving me a much wider understanding to use in situations.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are occasionally course or training days at the school where everyone is in together focusing on a specific subject to help the wellbeing of the school as a whole. There are also ECAs supported by the school with a variety of subjects to further the students education and diversify their knowledge.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The course provider is very organised and the program is very well set out. The support from the provider is exceptional and the assessors are very well educated friendly and good at teaching. My employers are also friendly and provide all the support you need exactly when you need it.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Surrey CC General?
  • The provider and the employer here are both extremely supporting whenever you need. The training system is very well provided and organised with all the information you need. It gives you many practical skills and key traits for in the workplace that you carry on with you into other jobs in the future.
