my role is a a rural fibre optical cabler, this involves me installing fibre optic cables underground to connect areas to the fibre network, i also install certain parts of the network such as splitters and distribution points which connect to the end customers property to give them the fibre connection, i work along side other teams to make sure the work is completed.
working as part of a team has always been easy for me but in this job with the dangers we do face i have learnt to trust people a lot more and improved my communication skills, i have also added to my knowledge of how the network works, from previous jobs i had a basic understanding where as now i know it in more detail and the different things it takes to keep the network running
i love that most of my time is out in the field working and doing the job, this has really helped me especially when its come to the study days as i now have a better understanding of the apprenticeship, the way it is done in this company allows you to get a real good understanding of your job role and doesnt feel like its all based on my apprenticeship
i believe its really well structured but as my job role is new to the apprenticeship its hard to judge whether it has been organised really well, as with all new things i believe there are areas to improve on and the information given at the start could be better but overall i really couldnt fault this programme
i get a lot of support from my apprenticeship trainer, she honestly couldnt help me anymore she is always there to help me understand different things, i am given all the time off required to make sure i pass this programme and it doesnt feel like i am being set up to fail i am being given everything i need to pass
i get a lot of support, i get given time to revise and ask questions and if i dont understand certain things i am given the time and extra support to make sure i can get my head around what is being asked of me, i couldnt speak higher of my trainer
it has given me extra knowledge on my job role and given me a more in depth understanding of different things, the break down of what cables are made of has helped me understand why certain cables are installed in certain places so without this i would just have a basic understanding where as now i feel confident when deciding which cable we should install
this company provides extra perks and discounts for after work things such as discounts for gym memberships, there are team bonding sessions, i cant speak of networking functions as i havent been with this company long but i know BT in general always do networking events at least once a year to reward the outstanding workers
Yes
i feel looked after at this company i dont feel like a number i feel like i am respected and given opportunities to progress and further my career, they dont hamper progression they want you to thrive and go further, i am also given the chance to get more skills and become better at my job, they also want to help keep you fit and health and have people you can talk to if you having issues in your personal life
the process can take sometime so hang in there and be as patient as possible, openreach want to help people learn so dont be afraid to ask for extra help or for clarification if you need it, always stay professional and always try to give everything you do your best shot at each stage of the application process
