  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work in Group Operations as part of the Network Market Management and Infrastructure team. This involves opening, closing and monitoring accounts with Agents banks (both opened/closed externally and internally). I also work on projects to improve the data quality of the accounts. I contact UBS colleagues all over the bank to help improve the data quality.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt lots of new skills since working at UBS. I have learnt about what networking is and how important it is to improving my career. I have learnt about the financial industry as a whole, and within Group Operations. I have also learnt about the certain regulations that are attached to working in the banking world.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy working at UBS and being part of the Apprenticeship scheme. I enjoy working in an extremely inclusive environment where I am confident to ask lots of questions to learn more. I also enjoy being surrounded with people of all ages, either as part of the program or directly.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The Apprenticeship scheme is very organized and structured. A training provider gives resources and support with regards to our Apprenticeship qualifications. Even colleagues within Group Operations who were not aware of the scheme are still very supportive. 20% of my working week is dedicated specifically to my Apprenticeship, allowing me to not feel overloaded with the struggle of work and exams.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There are several different levels of support that every Apprentice is made aware of. This can be my Manager, the Apprenticeship Support Team, my allocated Training Provider Support and HR. The culture at UBS allows me to feel comfortable addressing issues work and non-work related. Everybody is willing to listen and help solve issues, as they are willing for your success.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My Training Provider ensures that my studies are on the right track. If I have any issues or do not feel ready for an exam, they are happy to help. I can raise an issue in the monthly check-ins with my Training Provider, or I can always send an email if preferred, ensuring that the Training Provider is always available.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • As I began this Apprenticeship not knowing anything about the finance industry, I felt that the exams helped a lot with understanding the industry. I do not think that the exams related a lot to my exact role, however, they did help my wider understanding and were definitely worth doing.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are always events at UBS for everyone. There are several networks to join as well as one off activates that people can get involved in. Every employee is also given 2 days of volunteering to complete each year. In addition to this, as UBS is based in London, there are lots of different social events that take place outside of the building.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have learnt a lot whilst joining UBS. I have learnt skills related to my role, as well as several different life skills. My confidence has improved and I believe that the UBS culture has allowed and encourage me to develop as a person. I also enjoy working at UBS and believe that it is a good opportunity to develop a career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to UBS?
  • I would advise doing some research about the company beforehand (e.g. looking on their website and information about the role you are applying for). I would also recommend completing work experience in a similar area beforehand as this may help give your application an edge. When starting at UBS I would advise networking and spending time with your immediate team as well as attending extra curricular activities as this will all help develop your understanding.
