as an assistant clinical technologist I do daily checks with the technicians and do both planned maintenance and emergency repairs on medical equipment
I have been trained on a variety of machines and have expanded my communication skills.
I enjoy the practical work based in the workshop or clinic and the team are great however the coursework doesn't feel connected as its customer service related rather than equipment or electrical based and so it is difficult to fit it in with our practical work.
Depending on which placement the apprentices are in depends on the manager appreciation so some managers are really great and are willing to sit and teach and spend time with their apprentice however others would rather let other team members do the teaching and would rather let the apprentice just get on with work. The is a lot of internal recognition as each month one apprentice is nominated for the company wide apprentice of the month and our work is shown in conferences throughout the hospital trust.
Study support could be better as it our coursework can be confusing as it doesn't link in with our practical work at all however the rest of the apprenticeship is organised very well.
Great support from mentors and managers and we can approach them with any issues and they will be sorted. Coursework supervisor seems to struggle with helping us understand the questions in relation to our work
lots of support everyone is friendly and willing to help
covers travel for me but its not enough to live on if you have your own place and need to pay rent its ok if you still live with your parents
plenty of company events and presentation evenings. apprentices volunteer at a school reading to children
Yes
its a great opportunity if you want to get practical technical experience with medical equipment in workshops and in wards and departments and everyone is willing to help out and healp you learn and progress
