Once completing the first year solely within the college studying different subjects and carrying out multiple practical tasks, the next two years are spent within the plant carrying out various jobs throughout different departments within the company. You will meet many different people and carry out a wide variety of work while completing additional college work alongside.
I have learnt many new skills during this time, not only the qualifications achieved at college but also many hand skills from performing many different jobs. In addition, I have also developed interpersonal skills through meeting many different people and interacting with them day-to-day. Taking responsibility is a big skill I have learnt which is very important in this role.
I enjoy my programme as the people I have encountered and interacted with have been positive and helped me overall. The company expects you meet deadlines on time and be punctual which reinforces good behaviour to then further develop. Working as a group in college also creates a good bond and you become close as a result of this.
The course throughout was structured very well, we were always kept up to date with any changes and any deadlines coming up. The support was also good, it was easy to reach out to anyone if I ever had any issues or problems of any kind. The company was also thorough to keep us up to date in regards to training so we produced good work all the time.
The support throughout was very good, any issue of any kind was able to be resolved and there was away additional support if needed. Assessors always directed you in the right way to ensure work was up to standard and would assist you in improving it, if it wasn't.
If I ever got stuck with work, all I needed to do was to email one of the tutors who were available most of the time even out of working hours. This helped a lot as it showed they cared and wanted us to do well in our qualifications.
Having gained the qualifications I have I feel peace of mind that the work I carry out in my role is to the correct standards and procedures and to the best quality. The qualifications are relevant everyday in the work I carry out, which makes it all worthwhile in the end
Yes there are sports clubs and a club set up especially for apprentices for people who wish to join. This might be especial useful for people who may not know anyone from the local area or who may have come from a long distance away. Everyone was always very friendly and approachable.
Yes
Throughout my time as an apprentice, even though there were tough times regarding work and deadlines etc, I throughly enjoyed my time and met some great people along the way I wouldn't otherwise. Its a good company to work for and can provide great opportunities for the people who want to take them.
Do your research thoroughly first and decide if this is the industry and type of work for you, because it might not be for everyone. As for applying, just be yourself and relax, everyones pretty chilled and very approachable. Also don't be afraid to ask questions they would be happy to answer.
