I am currently positioned within Audit and I was complete Audit work for different clients. The work I do on a day to day basis would be to check the client's financial statements, check samples of figures back to invoices, speaking to the client on a video call daily to ask questions and raise queries.
I feel as if I have developed on my verbal communication as when I move from team to team I am meeting new people and have to learn to creat new relationships via networking with the new members of my team. Also due to working from home this has been tough as I have not been able to physically meet the people, so I feel as if I have done well in this respect.
So far I have fairly enjoyed my programme, I would have liked to rotated into different departments more but due to working from home this was not possible. I feel as if the programme has developed me as a person and I have also learned a great deal of new things and skills.
The prgramme could more more structured in respect of sometimes I feel it is not organised enough via communications. There are a lot of apprentices on my cohort that are confused and have a lot of questions regarding study days for exams and coursework which I feel could be vastly improved on.
I have received a fair amount of support from my employers, in terms of mental well being due to working from home for over a year I have received more support from more junior members of the firm rather than those high up which is quite poor from a senior perspective.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider as they are always happy to answer any questions as well as work outside of the usual hours to get back to emails. However, I am disappointed with the distribution of tuition materials as on one occassion I did not receive any and on another occassion I did not receive a binder to put everything in. Furthermore I feel as if the tutors could provide breaks more often as we shouldn't be spending over an hour straight staring at a screen. On some occassions I've had tutors not giving a single break for over 2 hours which is terrible.
Nothing that I have learned via my training provider so far has enabled me to perform better in my role as it has not been the most relevant so far, however I feel as if this will change when/if I go into the tax department as it would be more relevant then.
There are a lot of networking events that go on during my new team which is great, however it is tough to get involved when having to work from home as you are limited to what you can do. However, when everyone starts going back to the office on a regular basis I know this will pick up.
Yes
They are a very friendly company who inclusive to everyone. It is a good place to work and learn as well as gain professional qualifications that can help you push your career further. They provide great opportunities for their employees as well as providing great benefits if you wish to take them up.
I would be patient, depending on what team you are in there can be very tough long days, but then there will be better days when you enjoy your work. Everyone is friendly so do not be afraid to reach out to anyone if you are struggling with anything. Just show everyone at KPMG respect and you will receive it back and some.
