  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I assist with the day to day running of the FM team, including managing the engineers workload, making sure that all of the planned maintenance activities are completed within the given timescale and ensuring reactive tasks are issued to the relevant engineer or sub contractor. I also make sure that we do not fail any SLA's or KPI's.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I feel that my existing skills have been developed and that I have also learnt new skills. There were some areas of facilities management that I was quite knowledgeable about prior to starting the apprenticeship but those skills have definitely been enhanced and I am now better at viewing the bigger picture. I have also gained skills in areas where I had little to no knowledge previously such as financial management.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the programme a lot, I enjoy expanding my knowledge and like to learn new skills. I definitely feel like I have gained a lot from completing this apprenticeship and that it will be useful and helpful to me in meeting my career aspirations going forward. I was expecting it to be challenging which it is but I didn't expect it to teach me as much as it has.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is reasonably well organised, I feel that I have access to all the assignments that I am required to complete, however I don't feel that I have received much support from my tutors over the course of the programme, I have not gained much from my meetings with them and have also had several (I think 6) different tutors over almost 2 years which has lead to inconsistencies.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My employer has been very supportive, they have allowed me the time that I need to spend completing my course and I also feel that I am able to ask for help from my managers when and if it is required. I don't feel that I am resented for having to take time away from my daily role to complete assignments but that I am encouraged to take the time I need.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • I don't really feel that I have received my useful support, I have had regular phone calls with my tutor but I don't feel that they have necessarily helped with my assignments. I am hoping that as I am moving towards my EPA that I will receive the support I think I will need.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has definitely helped me to perform better within my role. My job role changed part way through my qualification and I definitely don't think that I would have been able to carry out my new role as well without this qualification. It has given me the confidence and reassurance that I know all areas of FM well.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are not many extra curricular activities to get involved in although EMCOR are keen on charity events which are held on site such as cake sales and there are often sponsored walk events to raise money for EMCOR's chosen charity. Each summer we also hold a BBQ which encourages everyone to get together and socialise.

  • 9a. Would you recommend EMCOR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • EMCOR are a good company to work for, I feel that they care about their employees, they offer a good benefits package and are always keen to given training when requested and will help to encourage you to meet your career goals. They are also keen to ensure that the employees have a good work life balance and can be flexible when required.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EMCOR?
  • I would say that although it is important to highlight your skills and qualifications it is just as important to highlight your values and other things you can bring to the company. It is important that you will fit in with the rest of the team and can put EMCORs values into practice.
