With my job role I am responsible for the general maintenance of the site which I am located at. The site I am located at is a clean water production site and we have water coming in from reseviours and we treat the water and clean it. This water then gets sent across the majority of London.
I have learned many new skills during my apprenticeship and one of the many skills I learnt is that I am getting more comfortable using different types of tools and mechanical machinery. For example, prior to starting my apprenticeship I did not know what a lathe even was and now I can fully operate one on my own.
I enjoy my apprenticeship a lot as i am learning a trade which I can work in for a very long time as this trade will never die down. Moreover, another thing I really enjoy is that I am also going to college part time and therefore I have made many new friends there.
My apprenticeship is organised and structured very well as since the day I started I had a certain structure planned out for me on what I need to start off doing. Therefore I just made sure to follow that structure and to stick by it so that I can develop my learning.
I receive a lot of support from my employer when needed this is because if I ever need help with anything I just mention it to my manager, whether I call or send a text message and my manager always gets back to me in order to help me out.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider as when ever I am stuck on something I can always send him an email or I can bring it up in our monthly meetings so that he can help me with it and he always does help me with it.
I believe that it helps me to perform better in my role as my training provider was also in my situation when he was younger as well as he was previously a apprentice when he was younger. Therefore he can relate to some of my problems and help me out with it.
I believe that usually there is extra curricular activities that take place within Thames water however this year unfortunately due to covid we couldn’t do anything. It was frustrating that we couldn’t do anything but at the end of the day our safety is the most important thing.
Yes
I would recommend Thames water to a friend as it is a great company to work for where the people here respect you as a person. Furthermore in terms of health and safety Thames water is a company which values its employees safety very highly therefore you can always make sure to know that you will be safe
The tips and advice I will give to others applying to Thames water is that they should make sure that they are interested in carrying out the role which they are applying for and that they are capable of doing it. Also they should be very respectful to people they are gonna work with.
