Due to Covid, I have been working at home from the beginning of my apprenticeship to now but it has still been a productive experience for me assisting my team in our audit, especially during busy season. My role varies but as I am an apprentice, I was given fairly simple work but also helpful as I went through important procedures with guidance from my team every step of the way.
I have developed a surplus of skills important in the auditing business such communication & teamwork and also learnt fundamental skills such as using certain software specific to auditing. Also, as the use of Microsoft Word & Excel is vital in the auditing process, I have developed a better understanding for using them.
Because of Covid, I haven't been able to gather a feel of the whole atmosphere of my workplace & the programme at which I'm in however, so far it has been an enjoyable experience due to my colleagues in my team being extremely supportive & friendly and also my fellow apprentices in my cohort.
At the beginning, the programme was structured in a fairly organised way with inductions to provide us information which was helpful. Training has been outstanding from outside organisation BPP and the support we receive is extremely helpful. However, after busy season, it seems as like they focus on our programme less as there is not a lot of work.
We receive a lot of support for example, we are given lots of online support that we can go through in our own time to enhance our knowledge and also, there are help desks available if you need any support. On the job, we are given lots of guidance on how to perform audits.
We receive a lot of support from our training provider; other than the lessons, there are also videos saved online for us to go back to and lots of questions in the question bank available for us to practice. There is also another lesson few days before the week of our exam for people to join if they need any support.
What we learn through our training provider gives us substantial knowledge that highly assists us in our audit. This is because as I am new to auditing and accounting, I find it helpful learning the basics as it builds my knowledge and certain areas begin to make sense as I go through my audit.
Due to Covid, there has been restrictions to extra-curricular activities such as sport however, my workplace has still provided us with online activities such as book clubs, networking events and also escape rooms. I believe my workplace has a strong belief in having breaks and im sure after covid, there will be more activities to do.
Yes
KPMG is not just a company but the ethics and beliefs is what makes our company. There is a lot of stress involved in the job and I believe that KPMG does the most it can to make people feel at home and at ease, while also providing an amazing service to clients.
An advice I'd give would be to gain as much work experience as possible as there is a lot of information to absorb as auditing is a completely new language. Also, always do research as this could make you stand out in the interview process and standing out is extremely important. Also, just be yourself and make them belieive why they need you!
