As a Support Engineer I provide the necessary knowledge, expertise and drive to deliver a professional high-quality service in the delivery of support across the full portfolio of Industrial Software and Hardware Products that SolutionsPT provides. At SolutionsPT we have an Apprentice Academy programme that works closely with Universities to deliver Apprenticeships from level three, all the way to full Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
I have learnt loads of different skills this varies from support exams so I can support different products to university units every unit I learn something new. But not only do I learn at university but on a day to day basis as I interact with many customers and every issue is different.
The Degree Apprenticeship program includes valuable on the job experience. I have acquired many more skills and techniques that cannot just be taught in a classroom as you are in real life situations helping customers. What I have learnt at university overlaps with work which consolidates my learning. I have also gained work professionalism which I would not gain if I were on a full-time University course.
It is a well structured program where we have around 30 days at university a year. We are now doing it online and seems to work well as we use moodle and Teams platforms to make our learning better. We go to uni in the academic year so it’s one day a week.
At SolutionsPT we have an Apprentice Academy programme that works closely with Universities to deliver Apprenticeships from level three, all the way to full Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees. Each apprentice is assigned both a Management and HR Mentor, whilst being paired with a ‘buddy’. The ‘buddy’ is a year three or four apprentice who knows from experience how to best guide the new recruits in the balance of work and study.
I am in my penultimate year of my Degree Apprenticeship studying towards a Bachelor of Science in Digital and Technology Solutions specialising in Cybersecurity at Manchester Metropolitan University. The Degree Apprenticeship program includes valuable on the job experience. I get a huge amount of support dealing with many customers gaining new qualifications.
I gain all learning areas to perform my job which gives me more understanding on the industry as well as the products. By gaining qualifications on products gives the managers more of an overview on what I am capable of which then in turn I get pay rises which is great.
We have these EAT events where we get pizza, ice cream, go ape, go for drinks, virtual have a beer and wine night along with a virtual chocolate tasting night. We have many events to get involved with for example in the summer we have a 5 a side football match.

Have a can do attitude always say yes to opportunities it gives you more learning and experience whatever the opportunity is. It is hard and isn’t for someone who isn’t strong or unorganised. You have to figure out your work life balance fast and understand it is never going to be 100% all the time in both areas.
