  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role includes, but is not limited to, taking 121 groups for interventions, assisting the class teacher in the classroom, managing behaviour, carrying out first aid, updating records for first aid and medication given, supervising children at breaktime, and lunchtime. I also take a group within the core subjects which include the lower ability children.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I have learnt different techniques when assisting children with disabilities such as autism and ADHD. I have also learnt how to ensure the holistic view of the child is taken into account in everything we do and achieve. I have learnt different behaviour management techniques, such as how to calm a child whose behaviour is escalating (and also how to spot that they will escalate).

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have, overall, enjoyed the programme, especially in recent months as my tutor had changed. Although I have had 3 different tutors since the beginning of the programme, I can without a doubt say that my latest tutor has restored my faith both within the company and the programme itself.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • When I first started the programme I was given a clear plan of how I was going to work towards the end result. I have, in recent months, felt supported and very well assisted by my tutor, and always had a clear overview of what I was expected to complete and the timescale it was to be completed in.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have always been fully supported by my employer throughout this programme, whether it was asking where to find information or practising for a personal discussion. I have always been allocated time to attend formal review meetings. My employer has constantly shown an interest and always asked to be updated on where I am during the programme, and asking if there is anything they can do to assist,

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My tutor has fully supported and assisted me throughout the programme, which has resulted in me completing ahead of time. Whether this is assisting me in preparing for personal discussions, or written assignments. I know that if I send an email it will be responded to in a timely manner. This has helped my overall enjoyment of the programme.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • My qualification has assisted in building my confidence within the classroom setting, and I have implemented several aspects of what I have learnt with the pupils I work with. It has also helped me when taking groups of children. This has helped me see my place, and the importance of it, in the school setting.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Since the restrictions of the COVID pandemic began all extra-curricular activities were suspended. However now restrictions are lifting we are able to use one of our secondary schools gym, swimming pools and facilities again. Normally, there will be an end of summer term event and a Christmas event for the staff, a summer and Christmas fayre for the community, but due to restrictions these have been suspended. However this aside we have had successful raffles, completed virtually, and hopefully in the not too distant future we will be able resume our whole school trips again.

  • 9a. Would you recommend LMP Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Anyone considering a level 3 qualification (teaching assistant) would be lucky to study with LMP. If they have the tutor I have currently then they will be fully supported whilst gaining this qualification, this is regardless of what support is required. With your tutor being your first point of contact, they are the flagship of the company.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to LMP Group?
  • My first tip would be to ensure you keep your tutor informed if you are struggling to complete anything to the deadline. The application process is both quick and easy to complete. Your tutor is your first point of contact therefore if you have any worries or concerns then speak to them - they will help if they can. No question is a silly question and someone is bound to have asked it before.
