Assistant Financial Accountant - role is a mixture between management accounting and financial accounting. Management accounting tasks involve transactional reviews, posting recharges, accruals, prepayments, producing management accounts with variance analysis and comments. Financial accounting role consists of balance sheet reconciliations. Other tasks include ad-hoc reports for other departments, bank recs.
- Technology skills i.e. Microsoft Excel, IRIS PS Financials - Business insight - organisation structure, year-end process - Analytical skills - given opportunity to analyse/interpret financial information
I enjoyed speaking to the team on all issues including situations at work where I can improve, where I am doing great and recommendations. My current organisation adapted to the need of changing my work routine to include this programme and I have enjoyed this change and enjoy the mixture.
Induction and meetings with programme staff were satisfactory but can be improved as they seemed very generic and not detailed. Tutors not available on demand as mentioned in the induction - can sometimes take more than 2 days to reply. Skills coaches meetings are held regularly which is great.
Only received support to a certain extent but in order to learn new skills/knowledge, there was a slight struggle as I cannot learn something new every week as I've already learnt a lot before the start of the programme.
Great boot camp sessions before exams but they are not on demand as mentioned in induction - also sometimes their knowledge can be questioned as it seems they read off textbooks rather than go through content properly.
Not great at the moment as my qualification involves a lot management topics but as I am not a manager, I cannot relate or experience anything I learnt however, the flip side is, these topics can help prepare me for when I do become a manager.
We only have on annual conference where all colleagues gather and information is exchanged between all departments but I feel this is not enough.
Yes
The overall target to gain a qualification alongside your current role which works well. Certain aspects can be improved but the basics are covered well which I believe is all that matters.
Ensure you have a clear and structured plan with the company so that you always have time aside for the course rather than leaving this until after you've started.
