  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The vast majority of the day, is spent ensuring that the path of the planned fibre is sound, and can be, and is clear. This enables the insertion of various forms of fibre optic cables

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Much, mostly about the uses of the now updated copper network, and the vastly superior fibre being rolled out. Including how this gets from the exchange to the customer, companies etc

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It’s the best job I’ve ever had, not the best pay maybe, but the job where I get a level if satisfaction is not previously experienced in the workplace

    10/10

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • It can often be confusing as to whom you are getting a job from, and this changes sporadicly throughout the working week. But the higher ups all know what they’re doing, I’ve always felt like the managers are a quality group.

    9/10

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • In this I can’t say enough, just amazing, I don’t get this lever of support from my family. It is impossible to feel anything other than at home in this job, it’s the way a job should be.

    10/10

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Good, always available and always happy to help, quick to reply. What more could you need

    10/10

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • It did help think about the role, though personally the hands on of the job was more vital to my journey than the classroom/ theoretical part, but it certainly helped

    10/10

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • Not directly, but we’re all friendly and often meet for this or that outside work hours

    10/10

  • 9a. Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Never felt more at home in a job in my 20 plus years in the working world,

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • Ask often, if you have a question ask it, trust me they’re there to help, and they will. Be safe, and enjoy your journey to become an openreach engineer.
