I maintain the HFC network for all services including telco, broadband and tv. fixing faults on a daily basis for both the HFC and business network. being on call on a once a month basis, answering calls to technicians and fixing referrals and faults in a timely manner as per company process
I have been able to build on my already existing skills of time management, critical and creative thinking, problem solving and being able to reflect my own learning. I have also, while being able to take constructive criticism, be able to give it to my colleagues so as a team we are also able to develop and grow.
I enjoy learning new skills, developing my existing skills when I worked for the same company but as a service technician. I enjoy being able to discuss methods and processes with my colleagues, especially on group works and projects. I also enjoy the routine and the type of work roles I can do.
I do feel that the negatives are all due to Covid-19 as the way I learn and the way I need some additional support on written work were not helped by distant and online learning which I found difficult as I need more in person and face to face learning
I receive the correct amount of off the job learning, additional support by my boss, principle, mentor and technical mentor so I feel very well supported in my role from my employer. I just wish that VM reinstated a Apprenticeship manager to assist with work when needed as I do find it difficult
I do find the apprentice provider helpful and Hardeep from GK is very supportive, helpful and goes out of his way to help assist me and to find alternative ways in which I can complete all my modules. We have been doing professional conversations as I find the written work very hard
I do feel that the qualifications could be better suited to my individual job role to help assist me in my day to day working, such as courses or training with Power, fibre or network technicalities. it would be more helpful that some other modules I have to complete that I don't believe help my day to day working.
I am a part of my Voice department at work, a way of bringing issues that my colleague have in a bid to better everyone's day to day working. We gather on a monthly basis and are able to make changes that make positive changes. I am also on the Panel of The Institute of Apprentices.
Yes
The roles are very interesting in a vibrant and dynamic company that has a lot of exciting things happening, including the Joint Venture which is very exciting and involves a lot of changes and development both within the business and my role. I also feel that Virgin Media is a great place to learn your role well.
Attitude is 90% of the requirement, I personally feel, in a job like an engineer. You are ale to learn the technical aspects of the role but having an enquiring mind and curiosity definitely helps. Having a mind that likes to know how things work, why and how. and having a great "can do" attitude helps.
