My day to day role is account management. In a typical working day, I will reach out to my customers and speak to them about what their IT needs are, and also reach out to potential new customers to discover ways in which Softcat can help them in an effort to generate new business for Softcat.
Yes, I have not come from a background in sales, so I have learnt many skills such as cold calling, account management and customer relationship management. I have also developed my existing communication, teamworking, organisational and time-management skills.
I really enjoy my job, every day in different and I look forward to the challenges that each day brings.
The programme is very well structured, meetings and training sessions are always booked in well in advance.
Softcat have been excellent in terms of providing support, whether that is from my apprentice manager, team leader, apprentice buddy, the L&D team or other members of my team.
Our training provider has provided excellent support around working towards our final assessment.
We receive two types of training, sales training and technical training. Sales training is provided by an independent sales coach who is excellent, I have learnt so much from her. The technical training is given by Remit. The Remit training is very hit and miss - we usually have session every fortnight, but these "training" sessions are typically just unguided time to spend working on coursework. I wish we actually got trained during this time, so that I have more technical knowledge to help me with my day job.
There is loads, but they have been limited due to COVID restrictions. I cannot wait for these restrictions to be lifted so that I can enjoy all Softcat has to offer.
