  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I would cover many different tasks and each day is often slightly different. I often start the day by reading over my to do list, then I would reply to my emails and sort my inbox out. After doing my emails and admin I would cold call into new customers until lunchtime, then after lunch call into warm customers. For the rest of the afternoon i could be in meetings/calls or doing quotes for customers or actioning customers requests.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting this apprenticeship with Softcat, i've started and developed many new skills. I think a main one which is also quite important is communication with people, even though this is something i've never struggled with, working at Softcat i've had the opportunity to speak to and work with different types of people all across the UK. I also know how to use new IT systems such as Sales Logix

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, i appreciate that even though we have been in the company for a short amount of time, Softcat trust us to get on with our own work and do what we are supposed to without having to be told. I also appreciate that Softcat understand everyone develops into new roles at different paces and some people may be better than others at first. But overall i love the programme.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think my programme is very well organised, there ratio of work to REMIT/programme work is very good, we always have enough time to get on with coursework and it doesn't disrupt us getting on with the job side. We always know when our apprenticeship training sessions will be so we can always plan around it.

  • There is so much support in Softcat around everything. Not only are there mental health sessions, loads of different people to help you and talk to you if you need, but there is lots of content on Fuse around support for the job and how to succeed in sales but also lots of support for our mental wellbeing.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • We get a lot of support from them and they are great at teaching us the apprenticeship. If i needed any additional help or information from them, they always say i can just email or call them about anything. They also make sure we leave our sessions understanding everything that we spoke about during that session.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There are loads of things to get involved in at Softcat, there has been a hobby group started and there's about 15 different hobby groups such as golf or running or reading. We also have funded teams nights out where we go out and do a social activity with our team. There have also been many virtual events and recently there was a networking event where we went and had lunch and drinks with a vendor.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It's just a great company to work for and there is endless support to help you to do well on the job. You will also meet loads of new lovely people and have the opportunity to do as well as you want to. There is also such a fun atmosphere that it could never be a boring job.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Softcat?
  • My advice is to be yourself as much as you can, don't worry too much about being 100% professional in an interview because Softcat aren't just recruiting people with good skill sets, they are recruiting people with great personalities and who will add to Softcats' culture. Just prepare and be yourself.
