  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The day to day is providing fibre broadband to customers, working on behalf of service providers, a mix of underground work and pole work pulling in new cables and connecting them at the customers premises. Also sometimes finding and fixing faults with the customers service every its nice to be out and about during the day from job to job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills, before applying for openreach I had ne prior experience of anything like this, I feel the training provided was very helpful and informative and made me feel confident that I could do the job on my own, there is always so much support from the work team also even after training.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • It is quite an enjoyable job the teamwork and help everyone gives each other is great, the daily interactions with many different people, I didn't really know what to expect when I applied but I definitely feel like I do enjoy the job more than I had expected to.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I think the structure of the programme is rather good, the training was really well delivered each trainer was great, made the whole process really enjoyable, and even after training for a couple weeks paired with a buddy to learn putting the training to use out in the field, and support always there if needed even after training.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I feel like there is a great amount of support from our patch manager, and patch leads, there is a good amount of links for support options if needed, I do feel happy with the support I have been giving during training and following on after training and buddying weeks.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • Quite a good amount of support, with regular apprenticeship days to work on what we've been doing and learning, putting together a portfolio and work towards completing the apprenticeship, as well as giving us guidance and supporting with any questions or queries, there's also someone to ask if you have any questions.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • The training provided was made very understandable and really provided me the skills and knowledge I needed to do my role to the best I can do with endless support during each class, each trainer had a high standard of teaching giving me the best working standard to do my role and work to high quality.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • There is opportunity for work gatherings, team social events, there's also opportunity to do volunteering, this job really allows you to be able to have a good work to life balance which is good and allows you to get to know your team and the people working around you.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • My own personal experience has been really good there's not really anything I would say that would make me not recommend a friend to apply to work for openreach, I was recommended to and would to someone else too, I hear a lot of good talk about the company.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
  • My personal experience was it was a long wait from first interview to everything in between and then to there being a space nearby to me but I would definitely say it was worth the wait, there is great opportunities to learn a progress with in the company and its a good experience.
