My role is a retail operations assistant - assistant to the head of retail UK and the store director. My day to day involves diary management, reporting, spreadsheets, orders, managing forms of team communication e.g. noticeboards, and general administration duties.
I learnt what comprises of a project in a business environment - through to the conception and the delivery. We created a business case/proposal, a timeline as well as a presentation. This was the most helpful tool of my whole experience, as I did not previously have any knowledge of this and it was good to learn the framework and building blocks for it.
It was great to have something to learn whilst on the job, and I was provided adequate time to focus on my course. It was nice to interact with my tutor and have their guidance throughout. In terms of meeting my expectations - I thought I would learn more technical skills but it was heavily focused on the business knowledge side.
The induction and course onboarding was seamless, and I was provided the support by Hawk and my tutor, as well as my line manager. Each section was broken up into themes, and it was clear what was expected. I had regular 121s with both my mentor and my line manager.
I had a lot of support from my line manager - we had regular catch ups regarding my apprenticeship and he had taken a lot of interest in how it progresses as well as giving me valuable input and guidance throughout.
My tutor was always available and at hand if i needed any support.
It helped me in terms of understanding the business better - it's policies, regulations, how external factors can impact the business, as well as project management.
Our company holds a lot of initiatives - workshops, fitness, opportunities to support charities etc.
