  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At RSA I look after the governance of the regional policy adherence and review the assessment criteria for them to match. Collecting evidence. I also support the CISO as a business manager (Budgets, team activity, forums, meetings). I also take on ad-hoc projects dependant on the leadership teams activity.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The module we are currently working thorugh looks at leaderhsip identity and asks us to look at our own stregths in this area. I have been working on expanding my network and working outside of the main CISO area. I have therefore created a working group for training and development and joined a steering group for women in tech.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I absolutely love the content on the programme. Its so interesting to be looking into theories and expanding my point of view. In part it also helps to put worklife into perspective - allow me to re-asses issues and apply some of the techniques talked about. We have also been able to connect with others across a variety of industries.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I can see that the structure has been very well through out and we have all of the modules details in the programme overview. The uni hub provided by the university however is a little confusing at times. There is so much information and so many pockets of information or tools to use that it can be difficult to navigate.

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • RSA have been fantastic in allowing me to take part in this apprentice scheme and from the very start have provided support, from the amount of time I need to dedicate to taking the time to find me a mentor. They also helped identify the right programme for me to join.

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • QU are in constant contact with us and so I've found them very supportive. At any time I am able to contact my support coach and the tutors have been really helpful. At times the information (at the start) was a little repetitive but I guess that's helped me understand what I need to be doing.

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I can already see the advantages of taking on the qualification, not only from the weekly content of the workshops & ready but how it has already led to opportunities to explore relationships throughout my company and the potential to start working with other further afield.

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • At times of covid it has been difficult to socialise but as being one of the members who runs the social committee we have made sure we have an event at least once per month. The company also support some of those activities financially. A summer face to face is the next hope.

  • 9a. Would you recommend RSA Insurance Ltd to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think the people here are really talented but they also enjoy their work. It makes it a great, friendly environment to work in. RSA as an employer have also been significantly supporting not just through covid but by trying to strive at all times to improve services and support for employees.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RSA Insurance Ltd?
  • Understand some of the basics of the Insurance market but certainly don't let that put you off. I have never worked in insurance but with a transferable skill sets learnt over the years I've been able to fit in nicely. Not sure what else to say on this one!
