my role is to deliver fibre broadband to the premise. So from day to day this will involve me climbing poles to put a cable up to the house then doing internal wiring to complete the job. I also work in the underground network doing the same job as well as fault finding in our network.
I have learnt a variety of skills since i have been with the company. i know know how to climb a telegraph pole with ease and confident, i have gained major qualifications, that being EUSR and one that also enables me to put road signs up when im working. i also now know how the telecoms network works.
i am currently loving the programme. it has gave me multiple qualifications and it has exceeded my expectations as i didn't think id enjoy it this much. I work with a fantastic team of people who are willing to help e no matter what. the company themselves are great to work for and i know ill have a long career here.
the programme is well structured. the first week being the induction really gets you to grips and prepares you for what is to come. the trainers are fantastic and very helpful, give you all the support you need. the buddying stage which you go out with some one and they teach you on the job is the best part. my mentor was fantastic and is why I've done so well so far.
i receive alot of support from openreach. they have a system in place where if you feel you require more training / buddying, they are more than happy to help and pair you up with someone to help you. they also have a dedicated a phone line for new starters in case you need to call someone
you receive alot of guidance, there is alot of links on the website to help new comers and also our tutor is always available for a chat with anything we need help with as there are no silly questions. this support is great and enables me to enjoy it alot more
on the job training and linking the qualification to what i do is a great way to enable me to perform better. putting the theory to practice and actually doing the role makes for a smooth transition from training to the real world. i feel this industry of telecoms is a great oppotunity
yeah there are oppotunities to do this and that makes it more enjoyable
Yes
because its a great company to work for with great benefits
be patient with the process as it could take a while but it is very much worth it
