  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Interior Trim Design apprentice, my job role is to learn the complete set of leather work skills from inspection, preparation and cutting, sewing, covering and assembly work. I am working within the Leather Shop and attending college on a part-time basis. Over three years, I will achieve qualifications in Modern Manufacturing and accompanying technical qualifications in Leather. My duty is to learn various skills within the Leather Shop areas, the placements are changing every month or two, but it depends on the depth of training in each particular area.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I like that I can see all process of creating interior designs in the cars and seeing all the different job roles within Interior Trim Desing. It is nice to see how the business structure is working and how to meet customer expectations. Also, to understand how the business runs and how important is teamwork to be able to create something wonderful and significant.

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme induction was very promising, and everything that was presented within induction time sounded interesting and the team build trip was a good introduction to the new career path. The mentor system is very good and supportive. Tasks delegation are clear and giving an opportunity to see all process of producing goods. Unfortunately, overall the programme is not well organised. Firstly, because I do not see the relation between college course provided with a work training. Also, because the standard of work is not clear enough and is very hard to understand what kind of knowledge you have to gain to achieve a high qualification and degree. The work standards are not set up properly so it makes it harder to understand them.

  • 9a. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • BMW is a wonderful environment to work in, many customers have excellent personalities. It's a busy but relaxed environment. Management is profesional. Co-workers are great people to work with. It is a company where you can develop your skills and career. But like in every production environment sometimes is difficult to level up your skills if you work on the production line and repeating the same role every day.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Be honest and open, try to be yourself and relax. Take your time to answer the questions and ask your own questions too! Research the company and know the role you are applying for. Practice good nonverbal communication. Work harder than everyone under you or above you. Nothing commands respect more than a good work ethic.
