I work in the project management office in the Water directorate in the Department for Environment, food and rural affairs. My daily tasks involve risk management and setting up meetings with external stakeholders.
I have learnt lots of new skills working in Defra. This has been from both on the job and off the job training. I have developed my writing and communication skill, as well as learning how the Civil service works and the skilols that are involved in that.
I really enjoy my programme. My team are work are very friendly and welcoming as well as extremely helpful. You also get to meet all of the other apprentices on the studies days which is great as they are all a similar age.
I feel very valued by the Civil Service as they are dedicated to my development and growth.
The programme is still relitvly new therefore there have been some theething problems and misscoummunication. However I feel this is imporving as time goes on.
The tutor and assessor are very visible and helpful. They are there if you need them and come back with a timely response to queries and questions.
My employer provides me lots of support. They make sure that i have enough time to complete my apprenticeship assignments. They are also supportive with my development within my role allowing me to get involved with as much as possible and giving me experiences elsewhere in the department when my area cannot provide me with that experience.
My salary allows me to commute into London every day. It is a great salary for a school leaver as despite your grade you are on the same pay as everyone in your pay grade.
The apprenticeship allows you the chance to go to school and college events in order to promote the scheme.
