My role is to provide the infrastructure to enable Openreach to deliver superfast broadband to homes and businesses. This involves ducting and cabling between the exchange and customer premises. No two jobs are the same and every day is different, Our network is always evolving so we have to be dynamic in our delivery.
Since joining Openreach in 2020 i have learned so many new skills. Some of these were essential for me to carry out my work in a safe working manor. We also have to attend refresher training to ensure that we are working to the latest standards. I have also developed my ICT/PC skills throughout my apprenticeship.
This has been a big change in my career and a totally new skill set and is something that i really enjoy. Working for a large organisation like Openreach is really enjoyable and stretches me to be the best i can be. I look forward to my future career with the company.
Being a large Organisation it presents it challenges especially during the restrictions over the past year. Openreach overcame most of these and changed the way they delivered my apprenticeship to enable me to make progress therefore I feel it has been well structured. There is room for improvement and i feel my opinions are values and listened to.
During my apprenticeship I feel i have been supported throughout but again due to the Covid restrictions this has been limited and I feel I would have benefited from more Face to Face support, I understand why this was limited and know that this was normally the case before the Pandemic.
I have been given good support from my Training Provider in this strange times through remote sessions and phone support. I have also been given good training to help with my job role. Support is always available if required and I feel that I can always ask questions to help me progress.
My qualification help me understand the wider ICT/Telecoms standards and this in turn gives me a bigger appreciation for my role. I feel that this goes hand in hand with my training and also has helped me improve my communication skills and my confidence. All in all it has been a worthy qualification.
My networking has increased as i have many colleagues that i can speak to and ask questions however due to the Pandemic social activities have been limited and team interactions have been restricted. I have heard so many good stories of what it was like prior to the the pandemic.
Yes
Openreach is a great company to work for with great benefits. I am also reasonably well paid for being so new in the company, You also have the option to progress within the company to further your skills and career. Most things is provided for you such as Clothing, Tools , company vehicle to name but a few..
Go for it. My experience has been pleasant and Openreach has continued to recruit during the Pandemic where other company's have not. Openreach has a good reputation and has good training and allows you to be the best you can be. Be patient as the recruitment process can take some time
