I do the purchase ledger role which includes registering and scanning all invoices which come in. i process all the payment runs - two monthly - and reconcile the supplier statements. i reconcile the fuel invoices weekly for both sites and also the petty cash spreadsheets and post this onto the system to the correct nominal codes
all of the skills i now have i have learned from putting my college work into practice whilst doing my apprenticeship. i am now confident speaking to customer and suppliers face to face and over the phone. i have developed spreadsheet skills and also reconciliations skills whilst being an apprentice
I enjoyed my apprenticeship programme a lot! This is because of the support i receipted and the balance of being able to go to college one day a week and work the rest of the week. I felt like I was leaning a lot from the college, but then putting it in to practice at work which really helped.
My apprenticeship was not very organised at first on the college side, as I had about 3 or 4 different teachers in the fist 6 months. This made it quite hard to concentrate and get on track at the start, but once it settled down the rest of the course was fine. With the exception of Corona lockdowns
Towards the end of the course is when i received the most support from my Employer. Once i had failed my last exam because of not being in class because of lockdown, they ave me 2 afternoons a week to study at work which really helped and I passed on my next attempt
My college did offer a lot of support - they came into my work every 8 to 10 weeks to do a review. I also had my College lesson once a week of a day which helped. And during lockdown i was offered online classes and a lot of work was sent to me via email to help with revision
I have definitely been able to put my theory work into practice. I always think when I am struggling on answering a question 'how would this work in my work situation' then it helps me as I am able to put it into practice. What I learnt in college did help me on a day to day basis
No my place of employment does not offer any extra curricular activities.
Yes
I feel AAT is a good route to go down over gong to university as you are able to put your work theory from college or studying into practice at work and it helps you in the real world. It also gives you a good start in your career as employers look for AAT qualifications if you are going into accounting
Go for it
