HSBC WPB Degree Apprentice Review

My current role is working within a specialized department within HSBC. I am involved in managing staff and their workloads, as well as reviewing the employee requirements for the whole department. I also review our back office MI data and analyze the amount of work we receive in to forecast how the business will work in future as well as identify any problem spots.

I have learnt a lot of people management skills in my time during this placement. I've learnt how to get people on board with your way of thinking, how to get staff to react proactively and positively towards changes as well as developed my existing skillset of analyzing and processing new data.

I am really enjoying my programme so far. The job role I find testing and if teaching me new skills which I believe will assist me in my career going forward, the degree side of things and the learning provided has been interesting and will help me in my roles going forward and the personal development side has also been good.

My programme is very well structured I think, I have recieved my timetable for the next 4 years to allow me to plan things out well in advance as well as receiving weekly updates before any lectures with what is required of me. I have constant support from the placement manager and I'm aware of who to contact if I require any support with the structure.

I receive a great deal of support from my employer. I recieve my 20% of working time off to study and it is always strictly adhered to which is greatly appreciated, I also receive support from them with mental health through the employee benefits programme which is great. My placement manager is always available for a chat and that instantaneous response received is greatly appreciated

I think I recieve a lot of support from my training provider. The lectures are well structured and contain all the information required, as well as having lots of additional support r.e referencing and an open forum to ask any questions i may have. I've also recieved some 1-1 support when writing assignments which has been of great help also.

I think it helps me to perofmr better in my role by giving me a greater understanding of the wider picture within banking and finance. My role is very department focused and doesn't affect anyone outside of my department however the qualification is really helping to broaden my horizons and really understand the wider scope of the organisation.

I get involved within the HSBC LGBT+ Pride committee which I am a member of, as well as my department having numerous social events throughout the month ran on zoom / email. Once we return to the office, I'm aware of various other social events which will be available to me as well which is great for the work / life balance.

I would reccomend HSBC to a friend, the pay is good and the employee benefits are great. Also, it is a worldwide organisation and that's really exciting to me that you could potentially work all over the world for one organization. In addition to this it has a really strong people focused culture and you receive a lot of support.

I would say to take your time with any interview or assessment process. Too often we feel like we need to rush through the answer and get it over with as quick as possible however if you ask for the time you need and put that extra thought into your answers it makes all the difference.
