For the duration of four months each apprentice is placed into each of the Quality functions through-out the business. A criteria is set with objectives to achieve during the placement. Initially shadowing members of each team to gain an understanding of their role and the work they carry out. I then work with them to complete tasks as well as being set my own tasks to work on.
I have learned and improved many skills during the apprenticeship, including: - Problem resolution techniques - Investigating - IT Skills (new software/improved in Microsoft) - Presenting skills - Communicating with others - teamwork - leadership - health and safety
The programme has enabled me to develop a large range of skills and meet loads of great people that are always able to help. I have been able to gain knowledge in engineering and business as a whole, which will definitely help with my future. I enjoy learning new information.
When joining the business each apprentice is given a placement plan, this shows them which departments they are planned to go to. In each of the department objectives are set, this helps ensure the correct information is received.
When joining the business we are all assigned a Mentor as well as our manager. We are able to go to them with any queries or problems we may have. We have a team meeting every fortnight to discuss new topics. Regular 1-1's occur between myself and my manager to discuss my progress.
College is every Monday, each year is split into 2 semesters where 3 topics are taught. Assignments/Exams are set through-out to complete in order to achieve the qualification. The topics in the assignment/exams are taught each week, we are then able to work individually to complete the tasks.
First year of the apprenticeship in Level 3 BTEC, this provides the initial knowledge required for the next years of the apprenticeship. The majority of topics taught for the qualification are relatable to my job role, and therefore provide me with additional knowledge, helping me to perform better in my role.
I believe so. As apprentices we often meet up outside of work and go out.
