  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • The role varies from day to day, but the majority of my tasks include contract management, stakeholder management, taking the project through different life cycles, getting advice from different engineers, reviewing documents, going on site visits and conducting safety inspections. There is also a lot of different documentation that needs writing

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since being at TfL I have managed to learn so many new skills. We are given lots of support during our apprenticeship and generally placement managers want you to do well. I have found that not only my project management skills have developed but so have other things like my social and professional skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I think that the programme transport for London have to offer is amazing. There is so much opportunity within the business and such a great network for us as apprentices and graduates. There is always someone you can rely on, additionally there is so much opportunity for the future which

  • 4. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured into four, six month placements, so two years in total. This means you should get the right level of exposure needed to successfully role off into a project management role within transport for London. The induction is comprehensive and you learn a lot within your first few weeks

  • 5. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Transport for London highly value their apprentices, in fact many people within the organisation believe that in the near future it will be the main way in to TfL. I have received a lot of guidance and support from them and strongly believe they offer one of the best apprenticeships out there

  • 6. How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
  • My training provider, Realise have supported us a lot throughout the process. We were assigned a Training and Development officer at the beginning of the apprenticeship who, although very busy, always makes time to answer queries and will always explain thing in layman's terms as sometimes understanding can be tricky

  • 7. How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
  • I think the qualification I have gained has helped me understand the principles of the job that I do. Transport for London do operate slightly differently to how my qualification states a project runs from start to finish however, it is easy to see how the two directly correlate l

  • 8. Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
  • If you are looking for a social apprenticeship, Transport for London is definitely the one to choose. Every different scheme has a large intake, so you'll always have people in the same position as you and TfL have a great graduate and apprentice committee which always has multiple events running

  • 9a. Would you recommend Transport for London to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I think Transport for London offer exactly what you need as an apprentice. They have so much support and guidance readily available for apprentices alongside offering a wide range of schemes. Additionally, there is a future at TfL, unlike some apprenticeships who just want cheap labour, TfL really want you to succeed and stay part of the organisation


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Transport for London?
  • Research the role in as much depth as you can, ensure that you research all of TfL's core values. The interviewing process for TfL is quite long but definitely worth the aggravation. Make sure you stand out should you get to the group interview and most importantly, ask questions!!
