My role is based within Quality and my day-to-day tasks involves supporting the manufacturing team with defects happening (how to rework, where possible). I am also project based, meaning i carry out projects to improve some form of process within cummins. One final thing i do a lot is investigation work, looking at all the defects and looking into why they are happening.
Coming into cummins i knew very little like most people starting Apprentices but now just over a year in, i have learned many things making me capable to complete my day to day tasks independently. Then from a college side i have gained many skills such as being able to use a lathe and a mill. College also shown me many fitting techniques to help me later in life
I enjoy my programme because i am constantly learning new things and getting confident in these skills before i am moved on to a new task. I enjoy working with all the different people within quality, this is good because you learn all the little tricks to every job. When at college they support you 100% with all work, helping in stressful situations
Is a Well organised programme, this is because they have a set out timetable of work days and college days and then which placements ill be doing and when. We always stick to this timetable unless for personal reasons you are unable to complete the next placement. Is very good
This company supports you with any problem you are facing. Within my office team and the HR department they look after me with everything. An example of this from my personal experience is i was having troubles getting into work for a few days due to car issues and they supported me with this by letting me work from home a few days and gave advice on what to do with my car. All the support is much appreciated
From college the support is just as good as cummins. If i don't understand a task the tutor will sit with me until i 100% understand the task. If you happen to fall behind, they will sit you down and come up with a solid plan on how to get you back on track.
i feel as if the things i learn at college are used within the work place by relating my college tasks to my real work, an example of this would be hand fitting at college, like using a file. College shown me how to use it and i use a file lots when completing day-today tasks. so i feel as if it works well but if i was to improve 1 thing, this would be doing abit more work on reading drawings for a level 2
Yes, personally i play football with lots of lads at work on a weekly bases. this helps improve relationships with the team. Then we have other events outside of work such as around Christmas time we sit down and have food together and reflect on the working year. One last thing we do is called EEEC, this is where cummins give back in charity type evens, helping the people of Daventry with different things.
Yes
i would recommend cummins to a friend because the work is good fun, not a day goes by where i get bored of my work. They support you 100% with any issues inside or outside of work. The hours are perfect for someone like me and the pay is very good.
The best advice i could give to someone applying to cummins is to do your research before, learn about what we do and how we impact lifes yearly. Another one from an interview point of view is be confident. Confidence makes you stand out and gives you the best chance of being successful.
